In a future without water, the land has withered and dust has settled on a lonely, barren planet. Ernest Holm (Michael Shannon) and his children Jerome (Kodi Smit-McPhee) and Mary (Elle Fanning) live on a farm on this harsh frontier. They have to defend their home from bandits, while Ernest tries desperately to rejuvenate the earth. Unfortunately, Mary’s boyfriend, Flem Lever (Nicholas Hoult) wants the land for himself and will go to any lengths to obtain it.
