In the early 1980s, Argentina began a transition to democracy. Arquimedes Puccio, a former agent with the secret police under dictator Leopoldo Galtieri, keeps a low profile. Worried about making enough money to support his family, he decides to go into the kidnapping business, using his son Alejandro, a star rugby player, as bait. Despite his moral misgivings, the latter blindly obeys his father. Alejandro’s conviction falters when he finds out that his father killed their first victim, who was one of his teammates, despite the ransom having been paid. Nevertheless, Alejandro puts the tragedy out of his mind and uses the money from the kidnapping as well as from subsequent kidnappings to open a sports store. He meets a young customer of Scandinavian origin and falls in love to the point where he wants to get married and leave the family “business.” Arquimedes doesn’t see it that way.
