It’s the summer of 1972 in Marina di Ravenna, a small seaside town on the Adriatic coast of Italy. A young man, Gibo, is trying to make money illegally fishing and smuggling mussels and eels so that he can visit his new girlfriend, Yonna, who lives in Denmark. Gibo recently abandoned his wife and son and lives in a small hut on the beach. Of the three people close to him, two strongly disapprove of his decision to leave everything behind for this new love quest. Gibo finds solace with the third, Bubus The Owner of the River, who is the only friend who doesn’t object nor reproach Gibo for his decision. Gibo’s daily life is interrupted one day by the arrival of Orcinamum, an African man, a rare sight on the Italian beaches, who soon becomes Gibo’s companion for the summer. By the end of the season Gibo has made enough money and leaves for his Danish dream. But like every dream, the awakening can often be quite different…
