After her husband tells her he’s spending the summer with his mistress, Magda (Penélope Cruz) is diagnosed with breast cancer. While watching her son’s soccer game, Magda meets Arturo (Luis Tosar), a scout for the legendary Real Madrid soccer team. However, Arturo receives a phone call saying his wife and daughter have been in an accident. Magda rushes him to the hospital, where his daughter has not survived, and his wife in a coma. As she’s battling cancer, Magda discovers she’s pregnant with Arturo’s child and gets the feeling that the child growing inside her is going to cure her of her disease.
