    The March sisters — Meg (Janet Leight), Jo (June Allyson), Beth (Margaret O'Brien) and Amy (Elizabeth Taylor) — welcome new neighbor Laurie (Peter Lawford) into their tightly knit circle. Jo and Laurie in particular form a close friendship, but when it comes to anything more, Jo hesitates and eventually goes to New York to make it as a writer. However, when Beth grows ill, Jo returns home to find many changes.  Based on the classic novel of the same name by Louisa May Alcott.
