Apple Bailey (Vanessa Hudgens) has had a hard life living with her mother (Rosario Dawson), an addict and a prostitute. After being physically and verbally abused, Apple takes her life into her own hands and runs away to find her birth father, who she has never met. On her lengthy journey, Apple struggles to survive on the streets before finally reaching her fathers’ house. When she meets her father, she begs him to let her stay with him, but the arrangement is short-lived. He kicks her out when she becomes pregnant and chooses to keep the baby. Now completely alone, Apple is taken in by a local women’s shelter where she meets girls just like her and gradually starts to make a family for herself. Inspired by actual events.
