On a whim, Eric Roth (Luke Grimes) travels to the remote desert town of El Camino, Nevada to search for the father he never knew. When he stops at the town's liquor mart, local, dim-witted police officer Carl Hooker (Vincent D'Onofrio) mistakes Eric for a drug dealer. As the events escalate out of control, Eric finds himself pinned down in the liquor mart with five other lost souls on Christmas Eve...one of which is his father. Meanwhile, in the parking lot, TV reporter Beth Flowers (Jessica Alba) gives live updates on what's determined to be a hold up/hostage taking, while Sheriff Bob Fuller (Kurtwood Smith) and Deputy Billy Calhoun (Dax Shepard) try to de-escalate the situation from the outside.
