At Hitler’s orders, General Von Choltitz prepares to blow up all of the city’s bridges and monuments. To dissuade him from putting this fatal plan into action, Swedish Consul Raoul Nordling sets up a meeting with the General at the Meurisse hotel. Face to face, the two men, who know each other, begin a dialogue that lasts until morning.
