After a solar flare makes the Earth radioactive, the surviving humans begin to build robots to help rebuild. The robots are built with two protocols – to preserve human life and to never fix themselves. Jacq (Antonio Banderas) is an insurance agent for ROC, the company that manufactures the robots. He is sent to investigate a robot that can fix itself, violating one of the two protocols. The further he delves into the mystery the more trouble he unearths, bringing terrible consequences to himself and his family.
