When 16-year-old John Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer) is kidnapped in Rome in 1973, his mother Gail Harris (Michelle Williams) desperately tries to convince his miserly billionaire grandfather Jean Paul Getty (Christopher Plummer), the richest man in the world, to pay the ransom of $17 million.
