Documentary
Director Vardan Hovhannisyan sheds light on the Nagorno-Karabakh War in this 2007 Armenian documentary. Little-known to most Americans, the conflict took place in Azerbaijan from 1988 through 1994 and left thousands dead on both sides. Mixing footage he shot in 1994 with new film from more than a decade later, Hovhannisyan contrasts life in the region during and after the war. Originally titled Mardkayin patmutyun paterazmi yev khaghaghutyan orerits, A Story of People in War and Peace netted Hovhannisyan the Best New Documentary Filmmaker prize at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival.
